Hello, nice to meet you! :)

I’m Denzel, a final year Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) undergraduate at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

I have always been passionate about using tech to create meaningful solutions for real problems. The ability to make a tangible, positive impact and improve people’s lives through my work is what fuels me to perform at my best.

At its core, process optimisation embodies this philosophy. This interest in optimisation led me to study ISE at NUS, and subsequently take on internships that allowed me to put this ethos of continuous improvement and problem-solving into practice. In my past experiences, I have utilised tech stacks and other non-technical tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and enhance efficiency.

More recently, I stumbled upon the field of User Experience (UX) Design entirely by accident. In my latest internship, we were split into teams, presented with a customer experience related problem statement, and tasked to invent a solution in 12 weeks. We were tagged to mentors from the UX team, who introduced us to foundational UX principles and methodically walked us through the design process. Solving this problem step by step, through the lens of UX methodologies opened my eyes to a discipline that felt both exciting and deeply aligned with the way I naturally approach problems.

Discovering how much UX design resonated with me was a pivotal moment, I came to realise how I had unknowingly embraced design principles, and how they have guided me through my varying types of work in past experiences, whether it was about understanding user pain points and empathising with users, mapping workflows, or iteratively developing useful solutions. Recognising this sparked my interest in UX design, and inspired to me to pivot to this new field.

What excites me most about UX design and sets it apart from other disciplines I’ve explored is its deep focus on people. Unlike purely technical or visual fields, UX sits at the intersection of functionality, empathy, and problem-solving. It’s not just about how something looks or how it works, but about how it feels and fits into real people’s lives. As someone who comes from a background in process optimisation and systems thinking, I’m excited by the challenge of designing experiences that are not only effective, but intuitive and meaningful.

Today, I aspire to be a UX designer that creates empathetic solutions for underserved audiences that are focused on truly meeting their needs, behaviours, and goals.

Check out my work thus far >
